Integration Support Services was founded by a group of migrants and refugees living in Harlow and started to build its capacity in September 2004. Within a few months there were many people involved working as volunteers to set the aims and objectives and a written constitution which was finally approved on 20th of May 2005. After careful preparation of the governing document we elected our first committee members most of whom were refugees, migrants or from an ethnic minority background.
Integration Support Services has changed the lives of hundreds of people who live in isolation and face a lot of barriers to integrate in the community.
During these years we have learned and faced many challenges and issues that migrant and other BME communities struggle with on a daily basis, we have learned that if we work together we can create a strong voice for our community and therefore have better choices for our lives.
Board members, staff and volunteers have brought this organisation from a small community group to one of the largest organisations in Essex working with partners, service users and other stakeholders with a common aim to support the successful integration of all migrants and other BME community groups.
